The problem with third-party
Direct Debit Facilities Management (DDFM) systems

When starting out, Facilities Management systems serve a great purpose. It means growing businesses can offer a credible, reliable service for their customers; they don’t need to worry about heavy financial admin and can focus on growth.

However, with growth, many organisations find that DDFMs can actually hinder their needs. We work with a wide range of Financial Services companies who’ve transitioned to in-house collections, and there are a range of common challenges that emerged from their third-party Facility Management providers.

Rising costs

Loss of control

Penalty fees

Delayed failure notification

Restricted data access

How it works

To use our solutions to collect Direct Debits in-house, you need to have a Service User Number (SUN).

Once you have a SUN, you can switch in-house collections one of three ways: using your own SUN, transferring your SUN, or Transferring Direct Debit Instructions (DDIs).

I have my own SUN.

  • End contract with current provider
  • Set up new relationship with AccessPay
  • Start processing BACS submissions via AccessPay
  • No need to notify payers – they won’t be affected

I have a dedicated SUN from my current provider.

  • Request transfer of SUN to your organisation
  • Involves a bulk change process (3-4 weeks minimum)
  • Must notify payers about the change
  • AccessPay assists with the transfer process

I don’t yet have a those a dedicated SUN.

  • Obtain a new SUN from your bank
  • Transfer DDIs from old shared SUN to your new SUN
  • Involves a bulk change process (3-4 weeks minimum)
  • Must notify payers about the change
  • Old provider cancels old DDIs, you submit new ones via AccessPay

What’s a SUN and why do I need one?

A Service User Number (SUN) is a unique identifier issued by your bank to collect Direct Debits. It’s required to manage Direct Debits in-house.

Not all organisations are eligible to obtain a SUN. It’s typically issued to established companies with solid financial records. AccessPay will help you get started on this.

If you’re not eligible, you may need to use a third-party provider. We can point you toward alternative options.
